Updates to Form 24F-2

In a release on April 8, 2020, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the requirement for filers to submit Form 24F-2 using an XML structured format. This change becomes effective with filings on or after February 1, 2022. The Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval (EDGAR) system began accepting test submissions of this form on September 20, 2021.

Form 24F-2 is required under the Investment Company Act of 1940. It is submitted on an annual basis to report and submit registration fees by open-end investment companies, face-amount certificate companies, and unit investment trusts. The fees due are based on aggregate net sales of the series. Previously, these filings were not submitted using a machine-readable format, making them difficult to compare and validate.

The technical specifications for the form were released on September 23, 2021. The new form collects the same data as the previous form, but puts the data within machine-readable XML tags. The basic filer information, series and class information, and fee calculation and payment information are all still reported in the new form.
